(65) A wolf cub!

Once upon a time, there was an era when the land of Silbaripuram was a mix of both jungle and human settlements. A brave young man named Ravunni lived there with his family. He had a wife and two children. His job was to go into the forest, collect firewood, and sell the bundles of wood in the market. One day, while returning home, he heard a whimpering sound in a thicket by the forest path. It was a wolf cub. Ravunni brought it home. His family did not have any particular objection. However, an elderly man in the neighborhood said, "Son, Ravunni, take it back and abandon it in the forest. Once it turns three, it will only show affection to the person who feeds it. After that, the cruelty of wolves will become evident. I have heard stories of this happening in my youth." Ravunni replied, "Uncle, I brought it for the children to play with. I will release it into the forest next year." But three years passed, and he tamed and raised it. This was because the wolf had ...

(33) The capseller!

Once upon a time, a traveler arrived in the land of Silbaripuram. He was a capseller by profession. His bag was filled with numerous caps of various sizes and vibrant colours. To attract customers, he always wore one beautiful cap on his own head as he walked through the town selling his wares. One day, exhausted from walking, he sat down under the shade of a large tree to rest. Due to his fatigue, he soon fell into a deep sleep, still wearing the cap on his head. A troop of monkeys living in the nearby trees spotted him. When the monkeys looked down, they saw the man sleeping soundly with a cap on his head. True to their mischievous nature, the monkeys decided to play a prank. Finding the caps curious, they reached into his bag, grabbed them one by one, and climbed up to the high branches of the tree. Following the lead of the first few, the entire troop emptied the bag and retreated to the treetops. Sitting safely on the branches, they began making loud noises and playing with t...

(24) The Master and animals!

Once upon a time, in the land of Silbaripuram, there was a Divine Guru who had an ashram. It was quite common for various animals to wander into his ashram from time to time. The Guru possessed the unique ability to communicate with animals. One day, a fox, a buffalo, a wolf, and a monkey all arrived at the ashram at different times. The Guru had strictly instructed all creatures that they must not fight with each other on the premises. However, he wasn't particularly happy seeing all these animals roaming around the ashram together. He was concerned that visiting guests might get frightened. To move them along, the Guru decided to play a small trick. "This ashram has vast grounds, and sometimes wild animals cause trouble here," he told them. "Therefore, I am assigning each of you a specific task." The four animals agreed. The Guru explained the tasks:  * "The first task is to go to the lion’s cave and find out what he is eating today. Whoever returns from...

(14) The Fragrance!

Once upon a time, perfumes and fragrant ointments were the most prized items among the merchants of the Silbaripuram kingdom. The royal palace and the surroundings of the lords' and landlords' estates were always drenched in sweet aromas. It was a time when high-quality attars (perfumes) were even exported to neighbouring kingdoms. Once, a need arose to appoint someone for this specific work at the royal palace. Since it was a high-paying job, a large crowd of candidates gathered at the palace premises. The court scholar set a single test for them. He said, "Each person must enter this palace room, observe the two flower garlands hanging at a distance, and identify which one is the real flower garland. You must also clearly explain the reason for your choice." Each candidate entered one by one. Most of them tried to identify it by sniffing the air, thinking the job was related to fragrances. To prevent the scent from escaping, the windows had been kept shut. Finally,...
