(130) The Journey to the Temple!

Once, Lord Buddha and his disciple Ananda were going to a distant temple. After walking just a little distance, the disciple felt tired. At that time, he asked, "Guru, how much more time will it take to reach there?" The Guru said, "One hour." After they walked and one hour passed, they saw a passerby coming. (34) Hodja's strange reply!

During Hodja’s lifetime, his unique way of thinking and his peculiar ideas gave birth to many beautiful and witty stories. One day, Hodja was traveling down a road on his donkey. However, since Hodja wasn't making any effort to guide the animal, it was wandering aimlessly in whichever direction it pleased. Moreover, wherever the donkey decides to rest, I will get down and start my work there." Hearing Hodja’s strange and comical reply, the people burst into laughter. Moral of the Story O...

People used to collect sand from the Silbari River for constructing houses and surfacing their courtyards. After many years of this, the river sand began to deplete. Consequently, the chieftain imposed a total ban on sand mining. Many years passed, and once again, the riverbanks became beautiful as the sand began to settle naturally. Shankunni, a resident of that land, had a courtyard full of sharp, protruding stones. One day, when his youngest child tripped on a stone and fell, he made a firm resolve: "One day, I will fill this entire courtyard with smooth river pebbles and make it beautiful!" From that day on, Shankunni started going to the Silbari River ...
